Around The Track: Current News
Simpson has continually led the racing community in safety innovation for 50 years. Our mission of keeping racers safe has remained our constant focus. What better time to review our heritage and report on what’s
next……….
As a Racer, you must realize that proper safety equipment is crucial. If you are going to race, we
urge you to have your priorities straight. Purchase an SA 2005 rated helmet and a HANS device.
A Nomex® Racing Suit and fire retardant under garments are the next crucial step in ensuring your safety. Simpson’s innovative technology provides the best possible defense against injury in a crash or fire event.
HELMETS
Simpson introduced the Snell SA approved Stingray carbon fiber helmet in 2008, weighing in at 2.8 lbs. for Small and Medium and 3.0 lbs. for Large and X-Large sizes. For 2009, the Mercury Drag Racing helmet will feature a super tight, optically correct eye port for near perfect line of vision down the quarter mile. Many of our helmets are produced by skilled craftsmen at our headquarters in New Braunfels, TX. This hands-on approach allows us to offer customizations such as advanced forced air systems for individual race environments and over a dozen hybrid colors including Rattlesnake, a unique multi-dimensional hue that changes with the light surroundings.
Restraints - Seatbelts and Head & Neck Device
Many professional racers wear Simpson belts. Simpson Platinum Polyester belts are the
strongest made and after working closely with safety expert Dr. John Melvin, Simpson was
the first to market with a 7-Point Drag Belt in 2008.
Polyester has been proven to be stronger, less prone to stretch, more resistant to UV exposure,
and to exhibit better resistance against liquid and chemical exposure. If you go fast, if your belts
are occasionally exposed to UV, liquids or chemicals, insist on Polyester. Simpson manufactures
seatbelts in configurations for all forms of racing. Our belts are made in the U.S.A. at our New
Braunfels, Texas facility and each set is vigorously checked for quality workmanship before
leaving our facility.
Every drag racer should have a head & neck device. The HANS device has proven to be
revolutionary in racing safety. Today, HANS continues to lead the way in SFI 38.1 certified head
& neck restraints. Living up to our mission of providing a full envelope of racing safety equipment,
we quickly brought HANS into the Simpson line, providing both financing and trackside service for
racers across the country.
Racing Suits
We continually update our suit materials to offer the maximum in TPP protection, comfort and
style. Simpson offers an array of fabric options. Our Signature Knit Nomex® is a Nomex®
blend that offers exceptional fire protection in a breathable, lightweight fabric. What’s
new? Double Diamond, available beginning October 2008, in SFI.15 and SFI.20 rated suits,
at 25% less weight and 15% less thickness over comparable fabrics.
All Simpson SFI rated suits ship complete with SFI tags. Whether you are looking for an intricate
custom design or a standard suit that offers plenty of functionality and style, our 50 years of
experience will ensure that you are happy with your suit for many years to come. And, in the
event of a fire, your suit will perform.
In Summary
Racing is a dangerous sport. We cannot stress enough the importance of proper and up to date
safety equipment. Purchase a Snell SA 2005 rated helmet, polyester belts and a HANS device as
well as a Nomex® Racing Suit and fire retardant under garments. Use them every time you race.
